Bag or Basket?

Finished size: 20x15x15cm

Rnd 1: 6dc into an adjustable ring and pull the string end to tighten up (6 sts)

Rnd 2: 2dc in each st around (12 sts)

Rnd 3: [dc in the next st, 2dc in the next st] 6 times (18 sts)

Rnd 4: [dc in the next 2 sts, 2dc in the next st] 6 times (24 sts)

Rnd 5: [dc in the next 3 sts, 2dc in the next st] 6 times (30 sts)

Rnd 6: [dc in the next 4 sts, 2dc in the next st] 6 times (36 sts)

Rnd 7: [dc in the next 5 sts, 2dc in the next st] 6 times (42 sts)

Rnd 8: [dc in the next 6 sts, 2dc in the next st] 6 times (48 sts)

Rnd 9: [dc in the next 7 sts, 2dc in the next st] 6 times (54 sts)

Handle

Make one handle with an approximate length of 40cm:

 

ch 51, 4dc in the 2nd ch from hook, dc in the next 48 chs, 4dc in the last ch, turn to work along other side of ch, ss in the next 48 chs, ss in the next st and fasten off.

 

Sew the handle to the inner side of the front of the bag. 

 

Make a handle holder as follows:

 

ch 11, 4dc in the 2nd ch from hook, dc in the next 8 chs, 4dc in the last ch, turn to work along other side of ch, ss in the next 8 chs, ss in the next st and fasten off.

 

Sew the handle holder in a ring shape to the inner side of the back of the bag. 

Jute basket

Turn this project into a basket by skipping the handle and holder part. Fold the top of the bag outward to form a basket.
